The birthplace of American democracy, the Northeast is one of the smallest sections of the U.S. It includes 11 U.S. states: Maine, Massachusetts, Road Island, Connecticut, New Hampshire, Vermont, New York, Pennsylvania, New Jersey, Delaware, and Maryland. Located between the Northeast and the Southeast, Washington, D.C., is also often considered a part of the Northeast.
